Bradley Secker on the pleasures and perils of photojournalism in Istanbul
Istanbul-based photojournalist Bradley Secker discusses his work on migration, LGBT+ asylum seekers in the Middle East and Europe, the challenges of working in Turkey and issues facing the industry.
How and why did you start your Substack?
There are a lot of things that everyone's talking about within the industry among colleagues, and a lot of things also mulling around in my brain about the industry, how one works in it, and the state of it as it changes constantly. We're always being told that it's a dying industry, a dying media landscape. I thought it would be – apart from a kind of therapy to kind of vomit my meandering thoughts onto a Substack - to touch on a few topics that I think are quite important to discuss, which are maybe not always so familiar for especially younger photojournalists or people studying photojournalism, or even those not studying but just looking and interested to get into it or interested in it.
